Someday you will leave this town and not look back
but for now you keep hurtling toward
the red center, the road unfolding,

the ice raining down in crystals
while the bridge heaves itself onto the bank;
river of mud, river of sad oily pleasures

where a kingfisher cuts through the waters brown skin
clean as math, and you want to say
this is like logic, but something fails you.
