I’m constructing my own brierpatch. True,
I’m bleeding from the long canes just dug in;
thorns lash at cultivation, cut both ways,
both in and out; like keeping things
in, more than battling them; that’s useful;
I won’t try getting out too soon,
say fro a tipsy fruit, or reckless stroll.
What I don’t spend on tickets I’ll apply
on long long-distance calls.
