I’m walking twice-pace home
as these days will be darker and might we

be illuminated, maybe. Hueish and fancy.
This is how I have always drawn myself,
skirted and level, not half so spiral as what, as me.
This is how I have always, and suffer it

sordid in the mirror, downcast and teeming.
I have seen myself with tambourine and candelabra,

tucked away with cymbal, turned dancing from exclamation
but what am I really but lazy, lacy, looped.

Ouija-struck once in this ghost weather
I cried that fool’s cry, gutted: They’re waiting
