after the painting by Paul Klee

I’m laughing at her, that red-cheeked doll,
my storm-of-the-century. She is icicles!
I’m hoarding odd gallons, dreaming of fear.
There was a child who never wanted
and she was redolent and wild, taintless light
and heinous yes, she was beautiful, mild.
And here’s yours truly, speaking of love, again.
How ordinary. I am afraid I’m untrussed
and strutted: Hold me. And don’t be ridiculous.
