I lived for a week in the bewilderment of arrival,
and, for a week, the bewilderment of arrival
         lived in me.

You appeared then, at last, distant glory
chaining these eyes, your raiment
         in roses,

your arraignment reigning over the silence
between us, my obeisance to you
         over me,

your indifference at death over you straining
the silence, the silence blossoming
         in that space

vacant, dividing us, dividing our attention,
your saintliness a flower at your feet,
         flowering

then at my feet, in my hands, kissing my lips,
my lips kissing your hands, kissing your feet,
         your feet then

trampling my lips, my lips which must be death
because you are a dying man and I have
         condemned you;

and then you disappeared through the folds
of that space into your own space,
         secret world
