Issue 74, Fall-Winter 1978
1. Fat Man
Clearly, the man eats too much.
He holds a half-eaten plum, reaches unthinking
toward the empty bowl for another.
His manners are bad. He embarrasses his guests
by unfastening his pants, scolds
the thin children who break into his orchard
and find nothing. He thinks of himself as wise,
but look, he ignores the hovering butterfly,
smiles not at his wife, now approaching,
but at the fruit she carries.
More fruit for him.
