It feels like a door in the light
through which the mind might pass at any moment,

arriving like an actor at a scene
you’ve long rehearsed:

a little market town, perhaps,
with rounds of cheese

and pigeons hung from wires
around the stalls;

a narrow alleyway that looks
familiar, on this rainy afternoon,

the glitter of the lights, the smell of bread,
the windows, with their naked mannequins
