and here against a wing of the castle in Ghent.
Here in a boat on the Rica Lake, here on the rocks
on the Black Sea.
Here on a donkey with the Infant, here on a horse named Baden,
and here in the shade of the centuries, in divine Florence.
Just think, I have collected all this for you so that
when at last you come, when you stand over me
like God’s Messenger in the extraordinary brightness of an
      ordinary Friday,
I will give myself to you smiling, crying, mutely screaming.
Because this girl, foolishly nineteen, is gone,
gone is the one on the lake and on the Black Sea,
this one on the donkey and that one on the horse.
So take this paper, these stiff poses, page after page
collected confidently in the bulging album. Touch the smooth
      skin
