The auditorium has been waiting
for what seems like years,
a subject to be suppressed
by a brace of snows, by any
change in the weather. Still, to
mention birds would be deemed
inaccurate, for only insects
can be discovered in the blaze
of night. Wings which could beat
the asphalt’s oily leer into
something like submission
are derided through an act
of description and now illuminate
an angle of perfect vision for
every single one of the stars.

Oh, the multiplying aspects as one
floats on an orbiting body. Oh.

Descriptions should describe
the tops of evergreens (seen
from above), and fireflies
with those precious, angry fires
sticking out from their torsos.
But instead, as a hale fellow
well interrogated by the regime’s
officials, I’m failed by my
visions, and the auditorium is like
an impoverished moon, which
instead of brightening the sky,
balefully diminishes it, fading
like the surnames of former lovers,
or of friends betrayed by immodest
words and actions merely kind.

A hundred thousand feet of cubic
space and not one clear answer.
