Living With You

I am in your living room when you are not thinking of me.
I crawl in your lap, like an amphibian
just recently awakened from the sea.
I look around with a dead stare.

I am something you’ve misplaced, a peel
you meant to pick up, a letter your read in a dream
and never answered. Somewhere right around the eye.
