I. Peter Healing with His Shadow
(Masaccio)

His shadow in the frescos
Is the first admitted
Into a picture. Before this,
The sick people waited
Centuries in the heat
Along the brilliant alley
For there to be a shadow
For the apostle to cast.
Now, as it passes over,
It affords each of them
And the brightly-painted alley
Miraculous relief. With
What thanks must they
Greet this mite of obscurity
Allowing, momentarily, sides
That are free from light.
