Astounding! Or Awesome! Or Epochal!
Some such was the word of his election.
The rooftops and street corners blared it.
Bells told each other, told everyone.
The plaza’s hubbubbing hundreds were thousands
suddenly, faces uplifted toward his window,
howling out a curse, a vow, a hope
set throbbing in the high-rises’ boom box.

pigeons, wheeling around, went homing away.
His name emblazoned on the holiday!

and sucked out the sense with the savor,

bonging shouts, sort of, or loud shushing
or, stuck in his ear, this unbudgeable thud
too thick to trickle into intelligence.
