This is the enclosure my family
has dreamed of, and brought into being
by the sheer collected force of our dreaming:
a fund. Generations of desire for repose, after chatting
away the seamless day in recalling
our forefathers and, separately, their sins: mistresses,
and the oppressions perpetrated on those who were loyal
and lived behind the house. We are
not even midway through yet.

There is something radical about doing this.
Check the action for resonances:
blue planks create a platform;
there is a sense that something will be performed
in this flimsy envelope. “Don’t follow me”
is the general cry.
My mom feels that way.
By the close of the reunion day
she is ready to be shorn of all relation.
Uncle Pete is of a
mind: he is ready for his body to hit
the traditional burn-pile; to ash up with paper plates and cups
and blow away in the cool
breeze, much commented-on.
