Poem of the Day
Study of Children
By Asha Futterman
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
And all around the cadaver stood a living halo of fifteen
quail
Two thousand pounds of Grade A carne vaporize
the heat. He has the biggest pecker in the pool
If I had never seen those glossy magazines, how-to-books, or blue
movies I think I’d still slide into the positions
discovered in the caverns of our river bed.
Antlers butting against the full moon.
Bellies lolling on my belly.
Passing out of a great city
A flower in confusion,
I, the speaker, and you, the listener;
Supremest fictions grow with fungus speed,
The drunk by lies, the diver knows by art
The blurry wrecks made fairy-tale with weed.
There was a bed prepared and avoided
Smoke faces
Too great a distraction
It's gone about far enough,
your being kind to animals.
I've had a belly full.
I tire as I carve the passage
Til the wind peeks out from underneath.
Yes, I guess this is clean now.
I am straddling Marini’s horse
using the horseman’s cock as my handle
galloping in place until it comes off in my hand.
