Poem of the Day
Study of Children
By Asha Futterman
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
light is the ocher color of earth
when the storm ends lovely.
perhaps the dogs will reign
and calculators make abortions an abomination.
Moonset at sunrise, the mind
dividing between them. The teeth
of the young sun sink through the breast of the cloud.
Scourging the sea with rods
To punish it for what it has engulfed.
Or running naked with your bronzed friend
Scourging the sea with rods
To punish it for what it has engulfed.
Or running naked with your bronzed friend
The arrow pointing three directions
Is a looser, more open form of display,
More like the subsidiary decor
They close the factory
They close the school
They point with fear
When I was regional
they let me have hands
On the chine of the first white inkling of the winter
The Ravenmaster wraps his limbs in combs of wind.
It is November; the tower closes down
There will be ruin in unwelcome worldliness.
