Gore Vidal

Gore Vidal was an American author, historian, and political critic known for his irreverent wit and erudite prose style. Born in West Point, New York, in 1925, Vidal was a prolific writer across multiple genres, publishing twenty-four novels as well as hundreds of essays, plays, and screenplays prior to his death in 2012. As a public intellectual, Vidal was a household name, frequently appearing at political events and on television and radio broadcasts where he debated topics ranging from sexuality to religion to American foreign policy. Vidal’s somewhat controversial views and acerbic manner often resulted in well-publicized feuds with other intellectuals, most famously Truman Capote, William F. Buckley Jr., and Norman Mailer.
