By overwhelming demand, we\u2019re back with more Baxter. To mark\u00a0the release of his new book\u00a0<\/em>Almost Completely Baxter: New and Selected Blurtings<\/a>, we\u2019re running two of Glen\u2019s\u00a0drawings every day this week<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0Almost Completely Baxter\u00a0spans four decades of \u201cColonel\u201d Baxter\u2019s work, drawing from such books as\u00a0<\/em>The Billiard Table Murders and\u00a0<\/em>Blizzards of Tweed. \u201cBaxter\u2019s comic realm\u2014the space between image and text, between perplexity and the mundane\u2014is a locale where uncertainty emerges as weird and weirdness recedes into uncertainty,\u201d Albert Mobilio wrote recently in<\/em>\u00a0Bookforum<\/a>. \u201cThe funny arrives as a slow-motion detonation that seems to dissipate as quickly as it boomed.\u201d Baxter\u2019s\u00a0short stories appeared in\u00a0<\/em>The Paris Review\u2019s Winter\u00a01972 issue<\/a>; a portfolio, \u201cIt Was the Smallest Pizza They Had Ever Seen,\u201d followed in Summer 1985<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Glen Baxter<\/a> is the author of many books since the 1970s, including <\/em>The Impending Gleam, <\/em>The Billiard Table Murders, and <\/em>Blizzards of Tweed. His work has appeared in <\/em>The New Yorker, <\/em>Vanity Fair, <\/em>Elle, <\/em>Vogue, <\/em>Le Monde, the<\/em>\u00a0Observer, and the<\/em> Independent on Sunday. He is a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters, and his art is often exhibited in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, and London, where \u201cColonel\u201d Baxter lives.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
