UNITY<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>On her dress she wears her body<\/em>. \u2014Blaise Cendrars<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Black, black, all black! The essence<br \/>of all that is deep, and you have<br \/>to have it! We all know the right<br \/>tools are essential to any undertaking.<br \/>Composed in just the right manner,<br \/>a little black dress can take you<br \/>anywhere. Nothing to distract the eye<br \/>from the body, in pursuit of your true art<br \/>lover. And next to you, honey, the tourists<br \/>will look like huge colorfields. The latest<br \/>lipstick is Venus, the latest shade<br \/>for nails is Mars. Perfect for museum day!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>II. BALANCE<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>A woman must continually watch herself. <\/em>\u2014John Berger<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In line, position yourself near the possible<br \/>object of your desire. Pay with plastic,<br \/>sign with a flourish. Think of your life<br \/>as one well-wrought performance piece,<br \/>and be sure to get the little pin; position it<br \/>above your breast, on your best side. Always<br \/>think ahead! You\u2019ll thank me later\u2014a fabulous<br \/>conversation piece, that pin, later at the caf\u00e9.<br \/>Remember, your entry into his frame must be<br \/>oblique, cause tension. Move to the corner<br \/>of his eye, but don\u2019t linger, if he is to engage you<br \/>in what we will call <em>the gaze<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>III. RHYTHM<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>I paint with my prick. <\/em>\u2014Auguste Renoir<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What do you desire in a man? Money,<br \/>Looks or (heaven forbid) Personality?<br \/>Determine your sequence in this manner.<br \/>For instance, the Renaissance is all good<br \/>and fine, but resist the tempting male<br \/>nude. We all <em>know <\/em>the perfect man<br \/>is a statue. But what straight man<br \/>can truly appreciate this? And stay away<br \/>from canvases of war. Narrative is the death<br \/>of art; it just goes on and on, and you,<br \/>my dear, are not even in that story.<br \/>Don\u2019t get me started.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>IV. DOMINANCE<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Here, nothing but a great thing can happen. The tall woman becomes taller. <\/em>\u2014Louis Aragon<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As you move through the pure white halls,<br \/>think: <em>Sargent, Klimt<\/em>. Thin fingers, thin forms.<br \/>Yes. Judith looks as if she\u2019s dreaming<br \/>up some plot, avoiding the painter\u2019s eye.<br \/>Follow her gaze. At its end you\u2019ll inevitably find<br \/>a man. But beware, if his eyes are big as paintpots,<br \/>he\u2019ll cling. Brushwork, gold foil is all he wants.<br \/>Now. This is the moment when life becomes<br \/>art. Circle the room slowly, mixing your blackness<br \/>into his linen (no polyester, of course). If he moves<br \/>after you, he\u2019s fascinated. Follows to Picasso?<br \/>He might be yours. (Make sure to use protection.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>V. CONTRAST<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The less you resemble us, the more you are sure to charm. <\/em>\u2014John Jacques Rousseau<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Position yourself, waiflike, in front of a Rothko.<br \/>Watch yourself being watched. But for God\u2019s sake,<br \/>choose the one that goes with your skin! Yellows<br \/>wash you out. Green? Too creepy. Red?<br \/>Yes, a dark, sensual crimson. You, diagonal,<br \/>just outside the frame. Resist time\u2019s constant<br \/>passing (a nip here, a tuck there) with the eye\u2019s<br \/>endless desire. That\u2019s what art is all about,<br \/>of course. You can do it, girls. You are the site<br \/>where the eye will stop. Be the object<br \/>and the frame. The looking, and the looking<br \/>away. Now let\u2019s go.
