Recently, 92Y and <em>The Paris Review<\/em> have made recordings of these interviews available at <a href=\"http:\/\/92yondemand.org\/Topic\/paris-review-series\/\">92Y\u2019s Poetry Center Online<\/a> and here at\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/92y\">The Paris Review<\/a><\/em>. Consider them deleted scenes from our Writers at Work interviews, or directors\u2019 cuts, or surprisingly lifelike radio adaptations.<\/p>\n<p>This week we\u2019re debuting\u00a0four new recordings from the series. Today, listen to <strong>Arthur Miller<\/strong>, who talked with <strong>Christopher Bigsby\u00a0<\/strong>on January 4, 1999.\u00a0Their\u00a0conversation\u00a0laid the groundwork for\u00a0Miller\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/895\/the-art-of-theater-no-2-part-2-arthur-miller\" target=\"_blank\">Art of Theater interview in the magazine later that year<\/a>.\u00a0Here, he dilates on meeting Mel Brooks (\u201cHe said, What\u2019s [the play] about? And I said, Well, there are these two brothers\u2026 and he said, Stop, I\u2019m crying!\u201d), watching productions of his work, and\u00a0the influence of politics in his plays:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I really can\u2019t follow politics too long because it\u2019s very boring. However, I have to recognize, like any person does\u2014I believe the country\u2019s run by business. There are two levels of power. One is business power, the other is political power. And the political power occasionally means a lot, but the business power always means a lot \u2026 The basic interest for me is what that does to people. I\u2019ve never really written about issues as such\u2014not that I don\u2019t care about them, but I\u2019ve written about the effect on people of the climate that they&#8217;re living in, the social and political climate. It\u2019s true of any play of mine, and I\u2019m very conscious of that, and always have been.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On April 20, 92Y will host the next installment of Paris Review Live: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.92y.org\/Event\/Nathaniel-Mackey-Cathy-Park-Hong\" target=\"_blank\">the poet <strong>Nathaniel Mackey<\/strong> will read from his work and sit for a conversation with <strong>Cathy Park\u00a0Hong<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we featured an interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2016\/04\/05\/lies-dont-last-with-age-an-interview-with-john-le-carre\/\" target=\"_blank\">John le Carr\u00e9<\/a>.
