I learned all about his life, his early baseball prospects, his divorce, his daughter, his newborn grandson. He hoped to teach the child to play baseball, which got us on the subject of baseball. He was a Yankee fan, and especially loved Alex Rodriguez.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He\u2019d even met A-Rod once. Well, sort of. He\u2019d been in his cab in the Meatpacking District when he saw Alex Rodriguez walking down the street with a woman. So Albert (that\u2019s his name) slammed on the brakes, sprung out of his cab, and grabbed A-Rod in a bear hug.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kept shaking him and shaking him,\u201d he said reminiscently. \u201cHe was yelling and terrified, but I wouldn\u2019t let go. Then the woman called the police.\u201d But A-Rod didn\u2019t press charges. \u201cHe\u2019s a nice guy, I knew he wouldn\u2019t,\u201d said Albert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love celebrities,\u201d he said. \u201cLove them, love them. I respect them.\u201d Besides A-Rod, he loves Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. But most of all, Al Pacino.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know how he\u2019s been on Broadway?\u201d He was wistful. I said I did; I guess Albert meant that poorly reviewed Mamet play. \u201cI\u2019d love to see him live,\u201d said Albert, \u201cbut I can\u2019t go. I know I\u2019d have to run on the stage and grab him and hug him, and I\u2019d be arrested immediately. I couldn\u2019t control myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what if you just see him?\u201d I said. \u201cWhat if he got into your cab?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I\u2019d lock all the doors and drive him to my house,\u201d he replied promptly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, you\u2019d kidnap him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019d have to. Then I\u2019d ask him some questions and we\u2019d have a cup of coffee, and I\u2019d drive him home.
