Photograph: Rik Klein Gotink for the Bosch Research and Conservation Project<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>A small Dutch town with the incredible name of \u2019s-Hertogenbosch is planning a truly legendary celebration of Hieronymus Bosch: \u201cThe whole city (already famous in the Netherlands for its wild Shrovetide carnival) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2015\/oct\/21\/hieronymus-bosch-exhibition-holland-small-museum-host-largest-ever\" target=\"_blank\">is\u00a0planning to go slightly bonkers\u00a0with Bosch fever<\/a>. There will be moving projections of Bosch paintings in the marketplace and 3D recreations\u2014erupting through pavements or hanging from lampposts\u2014of angels, demons, damned souls, mermaids riding on flying fish, drunken priests, lascivious women, and monsters with the legs of a giant chicken and the body of an egg. More images will be projected under the bridges and in the tunnels of the river and canals, for an adventure billed as\u00a0\u2018The Boat Trip of Heaven and Hell.\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, in London, the art scene is drawing its inspiration from a more contemporary source: One Direction fan fiction. The artist Owen G. Parry\u2019s latest work \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/culture\/art-design\/2016\/02\/larry-real-how-one-direction-fanfiction-inspiring-london-art-scene\" target=\"_blank\">explores the world of \u2018Larry Stylinson,\u2019 that is, fanfiction and fanart that explore a sexual relationship between One Direction band members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson<\/a> \u2026 Parry\u2019s pieces include\u00a0<em>Larry Underwater Kiss<\/em>, a digital silk print,\u00a0<em>Larry!Hiroglyfics<\/em>, etched drawings of the couple on Perspex alongside the slogan\u00a0\u2018ship everything,\u2019 and <em>Larry!Domestic<\/em>: masks of Louis and Harry in pink containers, alongside a wearable pregnant belly marked with Harry\u2019s tattoos.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Olly Moss\u2019s new video game <em>Firewatch <\/em>derives its subversive power from something you don\u2019t find often in the medium: solitude. It does, after all, feature a pair of \u201crudderless forty-somethings\u201d who keep their eyes to the horizon for a living: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/tech\/elements\/with-firewatch-olly-moss-brings-his-subversive-touch-to-video-games\" target=\"_blank\">The game is set in a few acres of a fictional national park in Wyoming, where you play as a fire lookout who intends to spend the lingering days of summer working alone at his typewriter, occasionally scanning the horizon for curls of smoke<\/a> \u2026 The core of the game is the relationship between Henry and Delilah, a neighboring lookout with whom Henry keeps in near constant contact on his battery-powered radio. Delilah, who has spent many summers here, is by turns a mentor, a therapist, and a flirt. You choose how Henry responds to her jibes and inquiries, selecting from a range of options to reply either in kind, in defense, or with silence.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>From 1940 to 1948, New Yorkers could enjoy the the<em>\u00a0New York PM Daily<\/em>, a distinctive tabloid that served as a progressive voice for the city, complete with unflinching photography and a mission statement that feels positively Sanders-esque: \u201c<em><a href=\"http:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/272812\/the-short-lived-1940s-nyc-tabloid-that-dared-to-tell-the-truth\/\">PM<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/272812\/the-short-lived-1940s-nyc-tabloid-that-dared-to-tell-the-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\"> is against people who push other people around<\/a><em>.<\/em> <em>PM<\/em>\u00a0accepts no advertising.\u00a0<em>PM <\/em>belongs to no political party.\u00a0<em>PM<\/em>\u00a0is absolutely free and uncensored.\u00a0<em>PM<\/em>\u2019s sole source of income is its readers\u2014to whom it alone is responsible.\u00a0<em>PM<\/em>\u00a0is one newspaper that can and dares to tell the truth.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Most of us (i.e., me) assume that translating is a total paradise\u2014a famously lucrative sideline free of pressure, stress, or neurosis of any kind. The translator Natasha Wimmer sets the record straight: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/broadly.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/bolano-translator-natasha-wimmer-on-the-pressure-of-working-with-great-male-novelists\" target=\"_blank\">By translating something you\u2019re implicitly recommending it<\/a>. I always think about that when I choose a project. I was just reading an interview with the translator Michael Hofmann who translates from German, and he was saying that in his ideal world people would consider his name an imprimatur. I\u2019m really not sure how many people look to the translator to see what to read next, but I do try to make coherent choices \u2026 There\u2019s a reason I&#8217;m translating a woman next. I think about that; I think about the question of women writers in translation. I\u2019ve translated on commission a lot, so I tend to just choose the best of what I\u2019m offered, and that\u2019s happened to be male writers.
