The look and feel is both so important to the readers\u2019 experience \u2026 The logo we now use was scanned from a midcentury back issue, and it has all the character of the original lead type that created it.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/magculture.com\/charlotte-strick-the-paris-review\/\" target=\"_blank\">Talking shop with our art editor, Charlotte Strick<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On <a href=\"http:\/\/bookforum.com\/inprint\/022_02\/14584\" target=\"_blank\">Henry James\u2019s mommy issues<\/a>: though the author was close with his mother, \u201che did not write much about mothers in his fiction. In fact, many of his best novels have no mothers at all. They are safe spaces for orphans, or semi-orphans \u2026 James loved his mother and he also wanted to get away from her. It is as though those desires were oddly close to each other, both sides of a coin, or nudged each other gently.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Juan Felipe Herrera, our new poet laureate, has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2015\/jun\/16\/juan-felipe-herrera-poetry-is-one-of-the-most-beautiful-ways-of-participating\" target=\"_blank\">at last revealed the fetish<\/a> that drives the creative class: tomatoes. \u201cWe are hermits, that is true. We live in tiny rooms, and we stay in those rooms hours upon hours \u2026 But we also like to walk around and throw ourselves into big crates of tomatoes, and roll around in them, and then get up all tomato-stained.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>In 1983, the philosopher Vil\u00e9m Flusser published <em>Towards a Philosophy of Photography<\/em>, which took an entirely technical view of the medium\u2014and in the age of social media, the book\u2019s arguments about technology read as eerily prescient. \u201cFlusser claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/lareviewofbooks.org\/essay\/its-a-mistake-to-mistake-content-for-content\" target=\"_blank\">the camera was the ancestor of apparatuses<\/a>, which are in the process of \u2018robotizing all aspects of our lives, from one\u2019s most public acts to one\u2019s innermost thoughts, feelings, and desires.\u2019\u00a0And when we look at social media\u2014from blogs, to Twitter, to Facebook, and to Instagram\u2014we can see he was correct. The Twitter game is like Wittgenstein\u2019s language games; we must learn the rules in order to play.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBring an excitement form wise\u2014not just word-wise excitement but the twist of the hip\u2014even the way we walk will be <u>put<\/u> in the poem\u2014it gets that basic. Should if we let it. Thus those damn readers\u00a0get their money\u2019s worth. They meet us.
