Our first issue, from Spring 1953, featured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/5219\/the-art-of-fiction-no-1-e-m-forster\" target=\"_blank\">a conversation with E. M. Forster on the art of fiction<\/a>, inaugurating a series\u00a0that\u2019s grown to include hundreds of poets, novelists, playwrights, translators, cartoonists, and screenwriters. These <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\" target=\"_blank\">Writers at Work interviews<\/a> have created a genre and canon of their own.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of that tradition, we\u2019re proud to present \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/myfirsttime\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>My First Time<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d a new video series where writers discuss the trials of writing and publishing that first novel, that first play, that first book of poems. This is a chance to see how successful authors got their start, in their own words\u2014it\u2019s a portrait of the artist as a beginner and a look at the creative process, in all its joy, abjection, delusion, and euphoria.<\/p>\n<p>Next week, starting on Tuesday, we\u2019ll launch the first four videos in the series, featuring <strong>Christine Schutt<\/strong>,<strong> J. Robert Lennon<\/strong>,<strong> Branden Jacobs-Jenkins<\/strong>, and <strong>Gabrielle Bell<\/strong>. You can see a preview above, including writers from future installments of the series such as <strong>Donald Antrim<\/strong>, <strong>Akhil Sharma<\/strong>, <strong>Tao Lin<\/strong>, <strong>Ben Lerner<\/strong>, and <strong>Sheila Heti<\/strong>.
