Photo: Eamon McCabe<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>Starting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/issue-213-preview\">our Summer Issue<\/a>, the novelist and critic Adam Thirlwell will join\u00a0<em>The Paris Review<\/em>\u00a0as London editor\u2014our first in ten years. In that time, we\u2019ve been admiring Adam\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2015\/04\/24\/staff-picks-man-boys-musicals-multimillionaires\/\">fiction<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2015\/04\/16\/more-than-just-a-haircut-and-other-news\/\">criticism<\/a>,\u00a0as well as his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2013\/01\/18\/what-we%E2%80%99re-loving-tropical-paradise-anxiety-translation\/\">editorial<\/a>\u00a0work for\u00a0<em>McSweeney\u2019s<\/em>. (In 2010, we sent him to interview V\u00e1clav Havel, alas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2011\/12\/20\/vaclav-havel-outtakes-from-an-interview\/\">too late<\/a>.) We\u2019re not the only ones, of course.\u00a0<em>Granta<\/em>\u00a0chose him as one of its best young British novelists\u2014twice\u2014and he was recently chosen by Salman Rushdie and Colm T\u00f3ib\u00edn for the E. M. Forster Award, given by the American Academy of Arts and Letters to a young British writer. Despite his much-belaureled youth, Adam is the author of three novels and a study of cross-cultural influence in fiction,\u00a0<em>The Delighted States<\/em>.* It seems particularly fitting, therefore, to launch his tenure with our special issue on the art of translation, featuring new work from half a dozen languages.<\/p>\n<p>In the same issue, careful readers will notice another change to our masthead. Susannah Hunnewell, our longtime Paris editor, has been named publisher of the <em>Review<\/em>. As Paris editor, Susannah interviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/5829\/the-art-of-fiction-no-196-kazuo-ishiguro\">Kazuo Ishiguro<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/5734\/the-art-of-fiction-no-191-harry-mathews\">Harry Mathews<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/6040\/the-art-of-fiction-no-206-michel-houellebecq\">Michel Houellebecq<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/6254\/the-art-of-nonfiction-no-5-emmanuel-carrere\">Emmanuel Carr\u00e8re<\/a>; in our new issue, she interviews the translating duo Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. A former editor at <em>George<\/em> and <em>Marie Claire<\/em>, Susannah began her career as a <em>Paris Review<\/em> intern, a fact she shares in common with our departing publisher, her husband, Antonio Weiss, who left the <em>Review<\/em> earlier this year to become Counselor to the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury.
