Next week, we\u2019re delighted to cohost the latest Norwegian-American Literary Festival<\/strong><\/a>, a series of readings, conversations, and musical performances coming to New York for three nights. As the events approach, we\u2019ll be telling you more about what\u2019s in store.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, May 21, at Chelsea\u2019s 192 Books<\/a>, James Wood<\/strong> will appear in discussion with four of Norway\u2019s most promising young writers\u2014we\u2019re eager to introduce them to a new audience.<\/p>\n

\"OEyehaug-Gunnhild\"<\/a>Gunnhild \u00d8yehaug<\/strong> has published poetry, essays, and novels, but she\u2019s perhaps best known for her short collection Knots<\/em>; \u201cEvery story [is] a formal surprise, smart and droll,\u201d Lydia Davis wrote of her stories in the Times Literary Supplement<\/em>. Her novel Wait, Blink<\/em> was made into the acclaimed film Women in Oversized Men\u2019s Shirts. <\/em>She has also worked as a coeditor of the literary journals Vagant<\/em> and Kraftsentrum<\/em>. \u00d8yehaug lives in Bergen, where she teaches creative writing.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Skomsvold-Kjersti-Annesdatter\"<\/a>Kjersti Annesdatter Skomsvold<\/strong>, from Oslo,\u00a0is the author of four novels and a collection of poetry; her work have been published in more than twenty languages. An English translation of her novel Monsterhuman <\/em>will appear from Dalkey Archive Press. Bold, witty, and deeply existential, Monsterhuman<\/em> is a bildungsroman that turns the story of a young woman\u2019s chronic fatigue syndrome into an intellectual journey, at once grave and comic.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Ingrid<\/a>Lars Petter Sveen<\/strong>\u2019s third book, the novel Children of God<\/em>, made him a household name in Norway. Due in English from Graywolf Press, Children of God <\/em>is set in the Bethlehem of Biblical times, where multiple narrators who have crossed paths with Jesus tell their stories. Sveen counts Cormac McCarthy among his influences, and his often violent stories present themselves as alternative gospels.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Carl<\/a>Carl Frode Tiller<\/strong> has written three novels and three plays; he lives in Trondheim and plays in the rock band Kong Ler. His three-volume novel Encirclement<\/em> tells the story of David, who suffers from memory loss\u2014but also of the nine people who write letters to him trying to remind him who he was, simultaneously questioning and celebrating the act of storytelling.<\/p>\n
