Authors in movies tend to act, all too realistically, like total bores\u2014sitting there, typing, thinking, gazing out windows, et cetera. But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/culture\/2015\/05\/it-possible-make-good-film-about-writing\" target=\"_blank\">it is possible to make good films about writing<\/a>. One of them is Joachim Trier\u2019s <em>Reprise<\/em>, which \u201crecognizes that much of the stuff of writing and literary circles is, well, talk. And unlike many other such films, it can talk that talk.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/moreintelligentlife.com\/content\/arts\/saul\" target=\"_blank\">Bellow had a way with similes<\/a>: \u201cWhen Professor Ravelstein laughs, he throws his head back \u2018like Picasso\u2019s wounded horse in <em>Guernica<\/em>\u2019\u00a0\u2026 Eddie Walish has a woodwind laugh \u2018closer to oboe than to clarinet, and he releases his laugh from the wide end of his nose as well as from his carved pumpkin mouth\u2019 \u2026 A man with a wooden leg walks \u2018bending and straightening gracefully like a gondolier.\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<li>In the late sixties, the progenitors of land art were \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com\/2015\/05\/04\/land-art-smithson-holt-heizer-troublemakers-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\">literal groundbreakers<\/a>\u201d\u2014a new documentary, <em>Troublemakers<\/em>, tries to rediscover their works, many of which have \u201csuccumbed to natural forces.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Plenty of horror video games borrow from <em>Dracula<\/em>\u2014but they take only the \u201cshallowest trappings\u201d from Stoker, preferring instead to lean on Lovecraft.
