For its front-cabin passengers, United Airlines is turning Rhapsody<\/em> into the Paris Review<\/em> of the air<\/a>, attracting authors like Joyce Carol Oates and Anthony Doerr.

Fly first class on United Airlines and you\u2019ll get a complimentary literary magazine called Rhapsody<\/em>. We\u2019re flattered that the Times<\/em> has seen fit to compare this lavish bit of swag to the Review<\/em>. But what to read if you\u2019re stuck in economy with the rest of us? Don\u2019t despair\u2014the \u201cother\u201d Paris Review<\/em><\/a> travels everywhere, and it comes with some perks of its own.<\/p>\n

  1. Stories about the\u00a0misery that is actual air travel<\/strong>. Rhapsody<\/em> avoids writing about \u201cplane crashes or woeful tales of lost luggage or rude flight attendants.\u201d But we\u2019ve explored the dark side of the skies since 1978: \u201cThe stewardess who smells like a dead dog has already rolled me over so that I won\u2019t aspirate if I vomit\u201d (Dallas Wiebe, \u201cNight Flight to Stockholm,<\/a>\u201d issue 73).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
