Recently, 92Y and <em>The Paris Review<\/em> have made recordings of these interviews available at <a href=\"http:\/\/92yondemand.org\/Topic\/paris-review-series\/\">92Y\u2019s Poetry Center Online<\/a> and here at\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/92y\">The Paris Review<\/a><\/em>. Consider them deleted scenes from our Writers at Work interviews, or directors\u2019 cuts, or surprisingly lifelike radio adaptations.<\/p>\n<p>This week we\u2019re rolling out the four latest editions to the collection: <strong>Horton Foote<\/strong>, <strong>Gail Godwin<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/audio\/6025\/92y-emthe-paris-review-em-interview-series-reynolds-price-richard-price\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Reynolds<\/strong> <strong>Price<\/strong><\/a>, and <strong>Tony Kushner<\/strong>. All are Southerners, and as coincidence would have it, we\u2019re just in time for the 150th anniversary of Lee\u2019s surrender at Appomattox Court House and the end of the Civil War, on April 9. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Today: a conversation between <strong>Reynolds Price<\/strong> and <strong>Frederick Busch <\/strong>from November 12, 1990. Price, who died in 2011, was known for his shrewd novels of the South, especially of North Carolina, where he was born and lived for most of his life. He wrote what he called \u201cbooks about human freedom\u2014the limits thereof, the possibilities thereof, the impossibilities thereof.\u201d His talk with Busch went on to inform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/2129\/the-art-of-fiction-no-127-reynolds-price\" target=\"_blank\">his Art of Fiction interview<\/a> in the <em>Review<\/em>, published the following winter:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I still enjoy fiction that is as broadly based as possible, and I think the majority of my own work is not primarily rural. It\u2019s primarily small town to small city and rural. Richmond, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina are about as large as cities get in my work until now &#8230; but I love the revealing truth of that tick, that pendulum tick back and forth between city and country.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tomorrow, we\u2019ll unveil the last of the interviewers in our Southerners series: a 1986 interview between Gail Godwin and\u00a0<strong>John Irving<\/strong>.
