If <a href=\"http:\/\/nautil.us\/blog\/how-to-make-art-that-withstands-the-test-of-time\" target=\"_blank\">you want it to endure<\/a> physically for eons to come, thus imbuing you with a kind of immortality, you should look to the past: marble, granite, wood, rabbit-skin glue, oil paint,\u00a0and\u00a0other biological materials are still the most durable ones around. \u201cConservators still don\u2019t know how some new art materials\u2014like dibond, used previously in outdoor signage, or acrylic paints\u2014will hold up over decades and centuries, but they seem promising.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Susan Howe and R. H. Quaytman\u2014poet and painter, mother and daughter\u2014are reluctant to foreground their relationship, but they\u2019ve collaborated on a book together and given <a href=\"http:\/\/tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com\/2015\/03\/24\/susan-howe-rh-quaytman-mother-daughter-interview\/?smid=tw-tmagazine\" target=\"_blank\">their first joint interview<\/a>. \u201cDuring the afternoon I spent with them, they happily talked over each other: about archives; about Mark von Schlegell, whom they both adore; about television; about Victorian novels; about vitrines.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A thirteenth-century cartographer drew a map of the Mediterranean <a href=\"http:\/\/discovermagazine.com\/2014\/june\/14-the-mapmakers-mystery?utm_content=buffer7f071&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">so accurate that ships today could still navigate with it<\/a>. \u201cThe mystery is how he managed to reconcile all this contradictory, incomplete information into one brilliantly precise chart of the Mediterranean that allowed mariners to visualize, for the first time, the sea on which they\u2019d spent their lives sailing.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cClive James made his name as a television critic, essayist and wit. But he began as a poet, and four years on from being handed a death sentence (with leukemia, emphysema and kidney failure\u2014\u2018the lot\u2019), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2015\/mar\/25\/sentenced-to-life-clive-james-poetry-collection-review\" target=\"_blank\">he is ending as a poet<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><em>Charlie Victor\u00a0Romeo<\/em>, a film and play, \u201cfeatures <a href=\"http:\/\/bombmagazine.org\/article\/2809319\/i-charlie-victor-romeo-i\" target=\"_blank\">six episodes of real-life airline disasters as experienced from the point of view of the crew in the cockpit<\/a>.\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s no romanticism in a crash. There\u2019s regionalism,\u201d one of its writers, Robert Berger, said. \u201cEvery other moment is intense technical troubleshooting about \u2018mach-speed trim\u2019 \u2026 As you watch it, you can see it as an opera in a language you don\u2019t speak.
