The moral, as ever, was: don\u2019t meet your hero. Unless, of course, that hero is Mister Rogers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After Fred Rogers\u2019s death in 2003, person after person came forward with stories of the man\u2019s kindness. Davy Rothbart\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/02\/28\/opinion\/a-friend-in-the-neighborhood.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>New York Times<\/em> piece<\/a> showed us a man as gentle and genuine as the neighbor we watched on PBS. And when your faith in your fellow man all but falls apart, you\u2019ve but to watch\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yXEuEUQIP3Q\" target=\"_blank\">Mister Rogers\u2019s Senate testimony<\/a>, and you take heart. \u00a0(Apologies to Frank Loesser.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/pics\/comments\/r0t4e\/when_i_was_4_years_old_mr_rogers_was_my_valentine\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Redditor<\/a> shared the following image several years ago, but a friend only just brought it to my attention. It made me cry, and it made me happy.
