Photo: Jergen Teller\/C\u00e9line<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg has started a book club\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/culture\/books\/11328973\/Mark-Zuckerbergs-book-club-makes-reading-a-chore.html\" target=\"_blank\">it\u2019s perfect for philistines<\/a>. \u201cZuckerberg launched the project by announcing, with what sounds almost like surprise, that books are \u2018intellectually fulfilling\u2019 and \u2018allow you to fully explore a topic \u2026 in a deeper way than most media today\u2019 \u2026 Imagine a world in which there\u2019d been 700 years of the internet, before, in the nineties, somebody invented books. It would surely seem a miracle that, instead of trawling through acres of semi-reliable information, you could have a guaranteed, portable and inexpensive source of knowledge from someone who knows both how to write and what they\u2019re talking about.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Joan Didion is, at eighty years old, still writing, and still modeling. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/fashion-blog\/2015\/jan\/06\/joan-didion-celine-spring-2015\" target=\"_blank\">She\u2019s the new face for the Spring 2015 line of the French fashion label C\u00e9line<\/a>. And she looks positively thrilled to be there.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2015\/01\/readability-is-a-myth\/384113\/\" target=\"_blank\">Why have we reserved the adjective <em>difficult<\/em> for works of high art<\/a>? If <em>difficult<\/em> means \u201chard to read, hard to get through, hard to finish,\u201d then <em>Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> is every bit as difficult as <em>The Recognitions<\/em>. \u201cDifficulty is various and subjective \u2026 opacity and frustration aren\u2019t necessarily errors or failures on the part of the reader.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nplusonemag.com\/issue-21\/reviews\/seventies-throwback-fiction\/?utm_content=bufferf6c0a&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">A crop of recent novels express a curious nostalgia for the seventies:<\/a> \u201cEveryone knows now how decades come back into fashion with motiveless regularity \u2026 The novelists who have lately returned to the Seventies seem to be making a stronger claim: that there is something uniquely vital to the decade, and in fact uniquely to be missed.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Say the apocalypse were to arrive and a world-sundering hellfire rained down upon us. CNN is ready. When Ted Turner founded the company thirty-four years ago, he stipulated that the network\u2019s last functioning employee had to air a certain video before ceasing broadcast at the end of the world.
