Its insight that the creatures in Moominland called the Hattifatteners \u2018resemble a wandering flock of penises or condoms\u2019 is a point to ponder when reading aloud at bedtime.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>What are the most important questions to ask ourselves when we read? \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/blogs\/nyrblog\/2014\/dec\/18\/how-i-read\/?insrc=hpbl\" target=\"_blank\">What is the emotional atmosphere behind this narrative<\/a>? That\u2019s the question I suppose I\u2019m asking\u2014and what is the consequent debate arising from that atmosphere?\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/12\/16\/science\/a-meditation-on-the-art-of-not-trying.html?utm_content=buffer43177&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">The Chinese term for \u201ceffortless action\u201d is <em>wu wei<\/em><\/a><em>. <\/em>You\u2019ll soon see it in self-help texts\u2014and why not? Striving to try less hard may, in fact, be very self-helpful. \u201cWu wei is integral to romance, religion, politics and commerce. It\u2019s why some leaders have charisma and why business executives insist on a drunken dinner before sealing a deal.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cA raucous, Sherlock Holmes\u2013themed pantomime called \u2018Mrs. Hudson\u2019s Christmas Corker\u2019 might not sound like the most highbrow play that London has to offer.\u00a0But if you sample enough of the mulled wine being served in the foyer beforehand, <a href=\"http:\/\/moreintelligentlife.com\/blog\/nicholas-barber\/mrs-hudson\" target=\"_blank\">you begin to see it differently<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Matisse\u2019s cutouts are now\u2014and not for the first time\u2014the toast of the art world.
