Congratulations to its winners this year: Evan Osnos in nonfiction, for <em>The Age of Ambition<\/em>; Phil Klay in fiction, for his collection <em>Redeployment<\/em>; Louise Gl&uuml;ck in poetry, for <em>Faithful and Virtuous Night<\/em>; and Jacqueline Woodson in young people&rsquo;s literature, for <em>Brown Girl Dreaming<\/em>. The <em>Daily<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/04\/transcending-the-archetypes-of-war-an-interview-with-phil-klay\/\" target=\"_blank\">interviewed Klay<\/a> earlier this year, and\u00a0<em>The Paris Review<\/em> published five of Gl\u00fcck\u2019s poems in our Winter 2007 issue\u2014read one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/poetry\/5821\/five-poems-louise-gluck\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>While we\u2019re at it, why won\u2019t the National Book Foundation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhpbooks.com\/bring-back-the-national-book-award-for-translation\/\" target=\"_blank\">bring back its award for translation<\/a>, which was eliminated in the eighties? \u201cThe prize was a model of award-as-activism \u2026 Its administrators leveraged the National Book Awards\u2019s clout in service of a category of literature that desperately needed popular attention and validation.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/11\/21\/movies\/mike-nichols-celebrated-director-dies-at-83.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;module=photo-spot-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Nichols has died at eighty-three<\/a>. (Not to diminish his incredible accomplishments as a director, but NB: his \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N5pXggZIr6I\" target=\"_blank\">Mother and Son<\/a>\u201d skit with Elaine May is still funny more than half a century later.)<\/li>\n<li>A new game, Ether One, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/business\/currency\/ether-one-video-game-tries-simulate-dementia\" target=\"_blank\">brings us closer to the experience of dementia<\/a>: \u201cYour job is to dive into the mind\u00a0of Jean Thompson, a sixty-nine-year-old woman diagnosed with dementia, and retrieve a series of lost memories \u2026 The collection gradually overwhelms the player\u2019s ability to remember just where all of these things came from and why they seemed important enough to retrieve. Why did I bring this plate all the way back here? Whose hat is this supposed to be again? It\u2019s a tidy simulation of the cognitive degradation of dementia.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/electricliterature.com\/jeff-vandermeer-explains-how-to-wash-a-mouse-in-the-southern-reach\/\" target=\"_blank\">How does one write a mouse-washing scene<\/a>?
