And if you look at the grammar of English you find that there is no rule that prohibits a dangling modifier \u2026 it was pretty much pulled out of thin air by one usage guide a century ago and copied into every one since.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>These are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/culturalinstitute\/exhibit\/post-haste\/QQaW4lhR?position=0%2C-1\" target=\"_blank\">some ways we\u2019ve received our mail<\/a>: from pigeons, balloons, <em>boule de moulins<\/em> (\u201chollow zinc spheres the size of a man\u2019s head and covered with fins \u2026 the idea was to place them in the river and let them float along the current \u2026 the service was canceled after just eleven days\u201d), pneumatic rail, rockets, cats.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFincher appears to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/richard-brody\/david-finchers-portrait-marriage?utm_source=tny&amp;utm_campaign=generalsocial&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;mbid=social_twitter\" target=\"_blank\">more pessimistic about love than Kubrick was<\/a>. <em>Eyes Wide Shut<\/em>, a post-Freudian work, takes sexual desire very seriously as a realm where the revelation of inner monsters makes it possible to live with them, with ourselves, and with each other. <em>Gone Girl<\/em> takes identity very seriously; it subordinates sex to power and love to pride, and suggests that the revelation of monstrosities brings knowledge without wisdom, adds pain to pain, covers masks with masks, and shows screens behind screens.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>When you\u2019re stressed, you could drink and smoke or squeeze a rubber ball or get a spa treatment or indulge in some petty larceny\u2014or you could just <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/scienceofus\/2014\/10\/why-you-should-write-yourself-a-letter-tonight.html\" target=\"_blank\">sit down and write a letter to yourself<\/a>, which is apparently the way to do it.<\/li>\n<li>An Agatha Christie fan has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-sussex-29508573\" target=\"_blank\">discovered the writer\u2019s lost diamonds<\/a> in a sealed metal strongbox bolted to the bottom of a trunk. \u201cI had read Agatha Christie\u2019s biography,\u201d the fan said, \u201cso I knew exactly what I was looking
