Trust me.<\/li>\n<li>Clancy Martin and Amie Barrodale <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vice.com\/read\/letter-from-the-chateau-marmont-0000338-v21n6\" target=\"_blank\">on the Chateau Marmont<\/a>: \u201cTo the left is a room with a lot of nice old mismatched couches and armchairs. Not blocking the chairs, so you might not notice it, just against the far wall, is a podium. An attractive person is always standing there, and if you try to sit in the lobby, he or she says, \u2018Are you staying here?\u2019 If you are, then you can sit.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>On\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artforum.com\/slant\/id=47107\" target=\"_blank\"><em>DIS<\/em> magazine and accelerationism<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Do they really just worship consumerism?\u2019 \u2026 As curator Agatha Wara, a DIS associate, once explained it to me, accelerationists believe that \u2018the only way to get over capital is through capital\u2019\u2014that is, by accelerating capitalism\u2019s own tendency toward self-destruction.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of that very tendency, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avclub.com\/article\/amazon-proves-it-can-also-invent-telephone-205988\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon is making a smartphone<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Did you know? It\u2019s not easy to translate Proust: \u201cThere is always a tension in translation between the spirit and the letter, between conveying things we might call tone, mood, feel, or music, and being as literally faithful to the original as possible. <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonreview.net\/books-ideas\/leland-de-la-durantaye-style-over-substance-translating-proust\" target=\"_blank\">Moncrieff excelled at both<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>How an episode of <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation <\/em>describes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2014\/06\/star-trek-tng-and-the-limits-of-language-shaka-when-the-walls-fell\/372107\/\" target=\"_blank\">the outermost limits of our capacity to communicate<\/a>: \u201cTamarian verbalisms depict the world through images and figures, which distort their \u2018real\u2019 referents. Troi and Picard can\u2019t help but interpret Tamarian through their (and our) cultural obsession with mimicry: Metaphorical language operates not by signification, but as poetry, by transforming the real in a symbolic mirror.
