Photo: Courtesy of New Balance<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Donald Hall, who published poems in our first issue, has taken to the <em>Concord Monitor<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/donald-hall-scott-brown-poem\" target=\"_blank\">to excoriate a senator in verse<\/a>: \u201cGet out of town, \/ You featherheaded carpetbagging Wall St. clown, \/ Scott Brown!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Today in crass commodification: New Balance is releasing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonmagazine.com\/fashion-style\/blog\/2014\/06\/09\/new-balance-makes-sneakers-based-best-american-literature\/\" target=\"_blank\">a series of shoes based on great American lit<\/a>. \u201cNo one captures the essence, spirit, and the American experience better than American authors and the stories they have told throughout history. For the Made in USA Authors Collections, we pay homage to great American authors by building a collection inspired by their stories and moments.\u201d The shoes are three hundred dollars a pair and \u201caren\u2019t specifically tied to an author\u2019s name.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/theappendix.net\/blog\/2014\/6\/a-short-history-of-the-executioner\" target=\"_blank\">The history of the professional executioner<\/a> is a chronicle of perfecting the choreography of death.
