But in the late 1860s, that\u2019s exactly what he began doing: he sifted through portraits of kleptomaniacs, nymphomaniacs, sufferers of severe self-importance, hysteria, and general mania.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/bostonreview.net\/books-ideas\/nicole-rudick-karen-green-bough-down\" target=\"_blank\">Our very own Nicole Rudick on <em>Bough Down<\/em><\/a>, a new book of prose fragments and collage by Karen Green, who \u201cfaces a special difficulty: her husband was David Foster Wallace. This fact is both central to <em>Bough Down<\/em> and incidental to it. On the one hand, he was a famous, much admired writer, and Green\u2019s new identity as \u2018the designated survivor\u2019 is one she can\u2019t escape. \u2018You are like the moon,\u2019 she writes to Wallace, \u2018you shed light on my insignificance from a great, wordless distance.\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Charles Simic remembers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/blogs\/nyrblog\/2014\/may\/28\/poets-distance-edson-knott\/\" target=\"_blank\">the poet Russell Edson<\/a>: \u201cHe thought of poetry as a cast-iron airplane that sporadically flies, chiefly because its pilot doesn\u2019t seem to care if it does or does not.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>At the Library of Congress, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2014\/05\/29\/316891473\/library-of-congress-searches-for-missing-jefferson-books\" target=\"_blank\">two hundred and fifty of Thomas Jefferson\u2019s books are missing<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Mesmerists of the eighteenth century believed that <a href=\"http:\/\/forbiddenhistories.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/23\/mesmerising-sounds-the-role-of-music-in-animal-magnetism\/\" target=\"_blank\">music played a vital role in the practice of animal magnetism<\/a>.
