Well \u2026 \u201cO\u2019Hara\u2019s <em>Lunch Poems<\/em>\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2014\/05\/frank-oharas-lunch-poems-21st-century-poetry-written-in-1964\/371276\/\" target=\"_blank\">like Facebook posts or tweets<\/a>\u2014shares, saves, and re-creates the poet\u2019s experience of the world. He addresses others in order to combat a sense of loneliness, sharing his gossipy, sometimes snarky take of modern life, his unfiltered enthusiasm, and his boredom in a direct, conversational tone. In short,\u00a0<em>Lunch\u00a0<\/em><em>Poems<\/em>, while fifty years old, is very a 21st-century book.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>With apologies to Keats, <a href=\"http:\/\/aeon.co\/magazine\/world-views\/beauty-is-truth-theres-a-false-equation\/\" target=\"_blank\">beauty is likely not, in fact, truth; nor, by transitive property, is truth beauty<\/a>. \u201cThe discourse about aesthetics in scientific ideas has never gone away \u2026 Today, popularizers such as Greene are keen to make beauty a selling point of physics \u2026 the quantum theorist Adrian Kent speculated that the very <em>ugliness<\/em> of certain modifications of quantum mechanics might count against their credibility. After all, he wrote, here was a field in which \u2018elegance seems to be a surprisingly strong indicator of physical relevance\u2019 \u2026 We have to ask: what is this beauty they keep talking about?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe Chinese <a href=\"http:\/\/languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu\/nll\/?p=12520&amp;utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter\" target=\"_blank\">name diseases based on symptoms<\/a>, so diabetes is known as \u2018sugary pee.\u2019\u201d A few doctors wish to remedy this.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBeginning in the late 1930s, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newrepublic.com\/article\/117835\/richard-edes-harrison-reinvented-mapmaking-world-war-2-americans?utm_content=buffer709bc&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Edes Harrison drew a series of elegant and gripping images of a world at war<\/a>, and in the process persuaded the public that aviation and war really had fundamentally disrupted the nature of geography \u2026 Harrison dazzled readers of <em>Fortune\u00a0<\/em>with artistic geo-visualizations of the political crises in Europe and Asia. The key decision he made was to reject the Mercator projection, which had outlived its purpose.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/online\/blogs\/books\/2014\/05\/bob-dylan-fanboy.html\" target=\"_blank\">The anxiety (and ecstasy) of influence in Bob Dylan<\/a>: \u201cWith the help of Google Books, Scott Warmuth, a fan from New Mexico, has been delving deeper into Dylan\u2019s recent writing and finding all kinds of odd, uncredited borrowings. Passages from Dylan\u2019s memoir, <em>Chronicles: Volume One<\/em> (2004), were taken from disparate sources: from H. G. Wells, Jack London, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald; from Tony Horowitz\u2019s nonfiction book \u201cConfederates in the Attic,\u201d a travel guide about New Orleans, and an issue of <em>Time<\/em>, from 1961 \u2026 Dylan\u2019s \u2018appropriations were not random. They were deliberate.
