This week <em>we<\/em> asked our favorite cineaste, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2010\/06\/30\/the-culture-diaries-richard-brody-film-critic\/\">Richard Brody<\/a>, to recommend a scary movie:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Georges Franju\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0053459\/\">Eyes Without a Face<\/a><\/em>. It\u2019s from 1960 and it\u2019s still pretty damn creepy. It\u2019s a mad-scientist story of a doctor who captures young women at his compound in order to experiment with transplanting a face onto his daughter\u2019s disfigured one. Franju, inspired by Surrealism, keeps the tone precise and chilly and lets the horrific strangeness emerge in quiet details and jolting juxtapositions.
