I couldn\u2019t force myself to slow down so that I wasn\u2019t skimming, picking out key words, organizing my eye movements to generate the most information at the highest speed. I was so disgusted with myself.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Yesterday was Don B.\u2019s birthday, making today the perfect occasion <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainpickings.org\/index.php\/2014\/04\/07\/donald-barthelme-not-knowing\/?utm_content=buffercc17a&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">to reread his 1987 essay<\/a>, \u201cNot-Knowing.\u201d \u201cLet us discuss the condition of my desk. It is messy, mildly messy. The messiness is both physical (coffee cups, cigarette ash) and spiritual (unpaid bills, unwritten novels). The emotional life of the man who sits at the desk is also messy\u2014I am in love with a set of twins, Hilda and Heidi, and in a fit of enthusiasm I have joined the Bolivian army.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEvery April,<strong> <\/strong>\u2018O, Miami\u2019\u00a0attempts to deliver a poem <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omiami.org\/festival\/\" target=\"_blank\">to every single person in Miami-Dade County<\/a>.\u201d (There are at least 2.591 million of them\u2014I just checked.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openculture.com\/2014\/04\/comic-adaptation-of-dostoyevskys-crime-and-punishment.html\" target=\"_blank\">Crime and Punishment and Batman<\/a>: all in one scintillating, thrill-packed issue of <em>Dostoyevsky Comics<\/em>. One wonders which superhero moonlighted in the <i>Brothers Karamazov<\/i> issue.<\/li>\n<li><em><\/em>From the annals of game-show history comes <em><a href=\"http:\/\/jalopnik.com\/game-shows-about-license-plates-once-actually-existed-1560347866\" target=\"_blank\">Bumper Stumpers<\/a><\/em>, a late-eighties Canadian television curio in which contestants parsed the wordplay in vanity license plates.
