(The illustration of Alfred Lambert falling from the cruise ship is especially well done.)<\/li>\n<li>Speaking of satirical children\u2019s books: in the UK, Penguin has proven its humorlessness <a href=\"http:\/\/hyperallergic.com\/116879\/penguin-group-targets-artist-over-satirical-art-book\/?utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\">by suing the author of <i>We Go to the Gallery<\/i><\/a>, a brilliant parody of the <i>Peter and Jane <\/i>series. One panel is seen above. The lawsuit avows that\u00a0<em>We Go to the Gallery<\/em> \u201cpollutes the idyllic brand of Ladybird books\u00a0\u2026 their argument is now fundamentally moral, not legal, and as such is an act of senseless and repressive censorship.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>And speaking of questionable litigation: here\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/the_eye\/2014\/03\/27\/the_history_of_the_late_night_tv_lawyer_commercial_99_invisible_by_roman.html\" target=\"_blank\">the history of late-night TV ads for unscrupulous lawyers<\/a>. \u201cThere was an era before ads like these were allowed\u2014and a big bang after which they couldn\u2019t be contained. And now, the legal world is in a subtle, possibly endless civil war over how attorneys should advertise their services (and whether they should advertise at all).\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Today in interspecies communication: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg22129624.300-dolphin-whistle-instantly-translated-by-computer.html#.UzRvuq1dXE7\" target=\"_blank\">scientists can now translate dolphin whistles in real time<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Presented without further comment: John Updike\u2019s shorts.
