In a two-year study of undergraduates, \u201cthose who harbored positive fantasies put in fewer job applications, received fewer job offers, and ultimately earned lower salaries.\u201d And those were German students\u2014not a people given to excessive sunniness. You can imagine what this means for Americans.<\/li>\n<li>The authors of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/theprotojournalist\/2014\/02\/15\/276480990\/what-we-might-learn-from-snoring-weather-cats\" target=\"_blank\">old weather proverbs<\/a>, on the other hand, were deeply pessimistic, especially about the omens of cats: \u201cWhen cats sneeze it is a sign of rain. When cats lie on their head with mouth turned up expect a storm. When cats are snoring, foul weather follows.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>One reason to attend your son\u2019s football games: you may meet John Grisham there, and he may <a href=\"http:\/\/lareviewofbooks.org\/essay\/mentors-john-grisham-tony-vanderwarker\" target=\"_blank\">offer to be your mentor<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cItaly\u2019s relationship to modernity is very complicated \u2026 [The Futurists] try to do something new and not repeat what\u2019s already been done, but in the end you can\u2019t shake off 2,000+ years of art and culture.\u201d On the Guggenheim\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolhunting.com\/culture\/italian-futurism-1909-1944.php#.UwPZgMSCb1w.twitter\" target=\"_blank\">new Italian Futurism exhibit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why can some people remember their dreams while others can\u2019t?
