Why? It\u2019s not just a matter of wanting to lead the pack or provide publishers with fresh blood. In \u201cThe Poet\u201d Emerson wrote, \u201cthe experience of each new age requires a new confession.\u201d That\u2019s our idea, too.<\/p>\n<p>Even by <em>TPR<\/em> standards, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/current-issue\">our Fall issue<\/a> is full of new confessions. Readers will remember <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/26\/ottessa-moshfegh-wins-plimpton-prize-j-d-daniels-wins-terry-southern-prize-for-humor\/\">Ottessa Moshfegh<\/a>, the winner of this year\u2019s Plimpton Prize. We think our other fiction contributors\u2014and most of our poets\u2014will be new to you. They certainly caught us off guard.<\/p>\n<p>We also have new <em>kinds<\/em> of work from writers you do know\u2014a photography portfolio curated by Lydia Davis, and a project more than twenty years in the works: Jonathan Franzen\u2019s translation of Karl Kraus, including some of the most passionate footnotes we\u2019ve encountered since <em>Pale Fire<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Find an interview with groundbreaking writer Ursula K. Le Guin:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A lot of twentieth-century\u2014 and twenty-first-century\u2014American readers think that that\u2019s all they want. They want nonfiction. They\u2019ll say, I don\u2019t read fiction because it isn\u2019t real. This is incredibly naive. Fiction is something that only human beings do, and only in certain circumstances. We don\u2019t know exactly for what purposes.
