Team <em>Paris Review<\/em> kicked off its season\u2014and its residency at our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/parks\/chelseapark\" target=\"_blank\">new home field<\/a>\u2014with a comfortable win over the Platinum Card crew from <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.departures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Departures<\/a><\/em>. Unlike the clientele of our vanquished foes, there was very little exclusivity in yesterday\u2019s merry band of Parisian home-run hitters, which included the likes of Robyn \u201cBig Daddy\u201d Creswell, Adam \u201cWatch It Fly\u201d Wilson, Ben \u201cWisdom\u201d Wizner, and Charlie \u201cBuckets\u201d Stein.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53647\" style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/GAP-Bike-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53647\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-53647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/GAP-Bike-2-181x300.jpg\" alt=\"George Plimpton, founding editor of (and longtime pitcher for) The Paris Review\" width=\"181\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/GAP-Bike-2-181x300.jpg 181w, https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/GAP-Bike-2.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 62.5em) 67vw, 100vw\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">George Plimpton, founding editor of (and longtime pitcher for) The Paris Review<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Those distracted from the game by the blissful heat of the late-spring afternoon may have noticed the elderly fellow who, having wrested free a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/05\/28\/nyregion\/bike-share-program-opens-in-new-york-city-after-long-delay.html\">Citi Bike<\/a> from a nearby docking station\u2014and evidently intent on imitating our circling of the bases\u2014began looping around the park, occasionally glancing down at his feet to study the bike\u2019s mechanics. Judging it sound, he exited the park just as we wrapped things up, and headed north on Tenth Avenue. I couldn\u2019t help but be reminded of another <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=g3ixqzyZil0C&amp;lpg=PP1&amp;pg=PA77#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\">gray-haired cyclist<\/a>, one who\u2019d no doubt approve of both a city full of public bikes and of another season of <em>Paris Review<\/em> softball.<\/p>\n<p>Next up: <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> (June 11, 7:00 <small>P.M.<\/small>, Central Park).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Team |1|2|3|4|5|6|7 Total Departures |0|0|2|0|2|1|0 5 TPR |0|5|4|2|4|3| 18 Well, folks: we\u2019re off to a good start.
