Our fiction finalist is Sarah Frisch, whose story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6201\/housebreaking-sarah-frisch\">Housebreaking<\/a>\u201d appeared in issue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/back-issues\/203\" target=\"_blank\">203<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These nominations are the latest in a series of recent plaudits. Last month, we received seven nominations for the Pushcart Prize. We also had a story (\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6130\/the-chair-david-means\">The Chair<\/a>,\u201d by David Means) chosen for <em>The Best American Short Stories<\/em> and an essay (\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/store.theparisreview.org\/products\/the-paris-review-no-201-summer-2012\">Human Snowball<\/a>,\u201d by Davy Rothbart) selected for the year\u2019s <em>Best Nonrequired Reading<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This week, <em>New York<\/em> magazine placed our new issue in the top quadrant of its famous, feared <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/arts\/all\/approvalmatrix\/approval-matrix-2013-4-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Approval Matrix<\/a>, while Adam Sternbergh, blogging for the <a href=\"http:\/\/6thfloor.blogs.nytimes.com\/author\/adam-sternbergh\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>, called it \u201cgreat\u2009\u2026\u2009great\u2009\u2026\u2009great.\u201d He singles out \u201ca great, long interview with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/6204\/the-art-of-fiction-no-219-mark-leyner\"> Mark Leyner<\/a>,\u201d the Art of Fiction with\u00a0\u201cNew York literary icon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/6203\/the-art-of-fiction-no-218-deborah-eisenberg\">Deborah Eisenberg<\/a>,\u201d and \u201ca great new poem from Frederick Seidel\u201d; plus, \u201cyou\u2019ll look great toting <em>The Paris Review<\/em>,\u201d thanks, presumably, to our<a href=\"http:\/\/store.theparisreview.org\/products\/the-paris-review-no-204-spring-2013\" target=\"_blank\"> great cover<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the eve of celebrating our sixtieth birthday, The Paris Review is up for two National Magazine Awards: Fiction and General Excellence.
