If you get the chance, check out \u201cCecil Beaton: The New York Years<\/a>,\u201d which has extended its run at the Museum of the City of New York. It\u2019s a record of the artist, designer, photographer, and general man-about-town\u2019s relationship with the city in pictures and words, and both the duration of Beaton\u2019s career and the scope of his creativity are something to behold. \u2014Sadie Stein<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the recommendation of our art editor, Charlotte Strick, I\u2019ve started reading Amelia Gray\u2019s debut novel, Threats<\/a>\u2014<\/em>the nifty cover of which Charlotte designed, so perhaps she\u2019s biased. But so far, it\u2019s with good cause: the narrative is subversive and impressionistic, evidentiary and eccentric. It reminds me occasionally of\u00a0Grace Krilanovich\u2019s\u00a0The Orange Eats Creeps<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0another deeply imaginative book and one that, in the spirit of this post, I’d wholly recommend. \u2014Nicole Rudick<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is, as Andrew Butterfield says in The New York Review of Books<\/em>, a show \u201cof staggering beauty and revelatory importance\u201d and \u201ca landmark exhibition,\u201d and it is also your last chance to see it this week. I spent last Sunday strolling through the \u201cThe Renaissance Portrait from Donatello to Bellini<\/a>\u201d at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I can\u2019t imagine a more colorful or vibrant way to spend the weekend. \u2014Deirdre Foley-Mendelssohn<\/strong><\/p>\n

I recently discovered Literature Map<\/a>, an addicting bit of artificial intelligence that plots writers by similarity. I visited the Whitney Biennial last week and caught Sarah Michelson\u2019s disciplined performance of\u00a0<\/em>\u201cDevotion Study #1\u2014The American Dancer<\/a>,\u201d a piece about movement, repetition, and the relationships formed in dance. Michelson’s residency ends March 11 and it\u2019s a spectacle not to be missed. \u2014Elizabeth Nelson<\/strong><\/p>\n
