What better way to get your Halloween thrills this weekend than with the Bernard Herrmann double features at Film Forum<\/a>? I\u2019ve been thinking about Galicia lately, what with Andrzej Stasiuk\u2019s\u00a0Dukla<\/a><\/em> having just been released by\u00a0Dalkey Archive, so it was a nice surprise to come across Timothy Snyder\u2019s fascinating history of the region<\/a> in the latest\u00a0New York Review of Books. <\/em>\u2014Nicole Rudick<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ever since I began patronizing NYC\u2019s Treats Truck, I have been curious about the secret of their scrumptious Butterscotch Pecan Bar. Imagine my delight, then, when I learned they are releasing a cookbook<\/a>! I\u2019ve preordered my copy, and the office will doubtless reap the rewards. \u2014Sadie Stein<\/strong><\/p>\n

This week I reread Allen Ginsberg\u2019s 1966 interview in The Paris Review<\/em> and found myself wandering back to the excellent recording of his poem <\/em>\u201cAmerica\u201d<\/a> at the Poetry Archive. \u2014Emma Gallwey <\/strong><\/p>\n

A friend gave me Anna Solomon\u2019s The Little Bride<\/em><\/a> and I haven\u2019t been able to put it down. It\u2019s the story of a Russian mail-order bride who ends up in the American West with a rigidly Orthodox husband\u2014but really, that\u2019s just scratching the surface. Last week, we fielded an advice question from a woman wondering about \u201cgood reads\u201d that also had literary merit\u2014I wish I\u2019d finished this one at the time, as it matches that description perfectly. \u2014S.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n

George Saunders\u2019s \u201cTenth of December<\/a>\u201d in this week\u2019s New Yorker<\/em> is not to be missed.
