(Even Wikipedia can\u2019t help but gush, describing him as \u201ca contemporary Don Quixote.\u201d) He was also, of course, a founding editor of <em>The Paris Review<\/em>. His daughter\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dochumes.com\/\">documentary about his rollicking life, <em>DOC<\/em><\/a>, is screening at the <a href=\"http:\/\/anthologyfilmarchives.org\/film_screenings\/calendar?view=list&amp;month=10&amp;year=2011#showing-37995\">Anthology Film Archives<\/a> on October 1<span style=\"font-size: 11px;\">st<\/span> and 2<span style=\"font-size: 11px;\">nd<\/span>. \u2014<strong>Deirdre Foley-Mendelssohn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paul LaFarge\u2019s strange, experimental, oddly moving<em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Luminous-Airplanes-Novel-Paul-Farge\/dp\/0374194319\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1316788768&amp;sr=8-1\">Luminous Airplanes<\/a><\/em> is worth reading for its own considerable merits. But for the full, interactive experience, you have to immerse yourself in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luminousairplanes.com\/\">the Web site<\/a>, too. And that\u2019s all I\u2019ll say.\u00a0\u2014<strong>Sadie Stein<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have been rereading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Stories-John-Cheever\/dp\/0375724427\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1316788789&amp;sr=1-1\">John Cheever\u2019s stories<\/a> and am happy and surprised to discover they are all fairy tales\u2014not just the openly magical ones like \u201cThe Swimmer\u201d or the European stories, with their nobles and castles, but even a country-club story like \u201cJust Tell Me Who It Was,\u201d in which a jealous husband goes looking for a tell-tale golden slipper. How had I never noticed this before? \u2014<strong>Lorin Stein<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I recently found a copy of the Huntington Library\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Innocence-Experience-Treasures-Huntington-Library\/dp\/0873282361\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1316788820&amp;sr=1-1\">facsimile edition of William Blake\u2019s\u00a0<em>Songs of Innocence and Experience<\/em><\/a>, issued together with extended\u00a0commentary. I\u2019m a sucker for facsimile editions, and this a gorgeous, visionary book\u2014Blake\u2019s diaphanous, pliant figures; wilting, overgrown plant life; organic page designs; and stained coloration. Every Blake fan should have this in his or her library. \u2014<strong>Nicole Rudick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rob Delaney writes in <em>Vice <\/em>this week about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vice.com\/read\/take-a-stroll-st-marks\">why we need to save St. Mark\u2019s Books<\/a>. \u2014<strong>Natalie Jacoby<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Woody Allen would be baffled. But who doesn\u2019t like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.designsponge.com\/2011\/09\/living-in-manhattan.html\">a tribute to <em>Manhattan<\/em><\/a>? In any case, it got me to rewatch the <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/0o6QKpNK9Cc\">opening sequence<\/a>\u2014and I defy any New Yorker not to get goosebumps when the fireworks go off over the river. (Philadelphians, even!)\u00a0\u2014<strong>S. S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And while we\u2019re talking Woody Allen?\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/mia_farrow\/status\/116243387086147584\">This<\/a> is when Twitter justifies its existence.\u00a0\u2014<strong>S.
