It\u2019s a story of death, loss, and loneliness\u2014but the writing\u2019s a pleasure, and sometimes you just need to read something with weight. \u2013<strong>Sadie Stein<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accounts of scientific expeditions and sea voyages have long been my preferred summer reading\u2014they seem particularly suited for never-ending afternoons spent lolling by the ocean. I\u2019m using the last warm days to finish\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Journey-Anders-Sparrman-Wastberg\/dp\/1847081754\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1313098951&amp;sr=8-1\">The Journey of Anders Sparrman<\/a><\/em>. \u2013<strong>Clare Fentress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I first encountered Wodehouse during a childhood August, and slurped up all of Jeeves immediately. What better time to indulge in the unflagging fun than now, when <a href=\"http:\/\/books.wwnorton.com\/books\/Author.aspx?id=17070\">Norton has just released stupendously colorful new editions<\/a> of the books? \u2013<strong>Deirdre Foley-Mendelssohn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t go on vacation this summer, so I\u2019ve been vicariously living through the galley of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Best-American-Travel-Writing-2011\/dp\/0547333366\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1313097504&amp;sr=1-1\">The Best American Travel Writing 2011<\/a><\/em>. It includes a round-the-world sea voyage with Christopher Buckley and trashy Miami parties with Emily Witt. \u2013<strong>Ali Pechman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m really eager to get my hands on Faye Dudden\u2019s\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fighting-Chance-Struggle-Suffrage-Reconstruction\/dp\/0199772630\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1313097371&amp;sr=8-1\">Fighting Chance<\/a><\/em>\u2014which tells the story of how women\u2019s suffrage fractured the like-minded abolitionist community. Here\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wilsonquarterly.com\/blog\/index.cfm\/Current_Books\/2011\/8\/9\/free-for-all\">a great piece<\/a> on the book from the\u00a0<em>Wilson Quarterly.<\/em> \u2013<strong>S.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While browsing <em>The Atlantic<\/em>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/video\/\">new video channel<\/a>, I came across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/video\/archive\/2011\/08\/cats-in-zero-gravity\/243160\/ \">this clip<\/a> documenting some important bioastronautics research.\u00a0\u2013<strong>Natalie Jacoby<\/strong><strong><br \/> <\/strong><br \/> NYRBlog quite bluntly states what I\u2019ve thought more than once in \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/blogs\/nyrblog\/2011\/aug\/11\/heres-what-i-hate-about-writers-houses\/\">Here\u2019s What I Hate About Writer\u2019s Houses<\/a>\u201d: \u201cThat art can be understood by examining the chewed pencils of the writer.\u201d \u2013<strong>A.
