I\u2019m a total food-history nerd, but I don\u2019t think you\u2019d need to be to enjoy what\u2019s ultimately a treatise on the making of modern French culture. \u2014<strong>Sadie Stein<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>The subject of summer dresses seems to be everywhere. Geoff Dyer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2291930\/\">described<\/a> the \u201cperfect summer dress.\u201d And the <em>Times<\/em> did some serious investigative reporting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/07\/21\/fashion\/women-enjoy-the-cool-comfort-of-summer-dresses.html?ref=style\">on the fashion<\/a>. But let\u2019s not forget the classic short story by Irwin Shaw, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicshorts.com\/stories\/dresses.html\">The Girls in Their Summer Dresses<\/a>.\u201d \u2014<strong>Thessaly La Force<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Fist bumps to David Chang and McSweeney\u2019s for their new food magazine\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsweeneys.net\/luckypeach\">Lucky Peach<\/a><\/em>. Naturally, the first issue is on ramen. \u2014<strong>Cody Wiewandt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m anxiously awaiting the\u00a0<em>Los Angeles Review of Books\u2019<\/em> next installment of Mike Davis\u2019s serial \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/lareviewofbooks.org\/post\/7645700601\/the-ghost-of-wrath\" target=\"_blank\">The Ghost of Wrath<\/a>,\u201d an account of the deliciously evil original <em>LA Times<\/em> publisher Harrison Gray Otis. \u2014<strong>Ali Pechman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m from Ohio, but I\u2019m not from Donald Ray Pollack\u2019s Ohio. His new book and first novel,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Devil-All-Time-Donald-Pollock\/dp\/038553504X\">The Devil All the Time<\/a><\/em>, is as scary as it is good. \u2014<strong>C. W.<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m quite enamored with\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wornjournal.com\/html\/\">Worn Journal<\/a><\/em>, a smart, sassy, Toronto-based, antifashion mag with an emphasis on used clothing. I just got the latest issue and am finding it a total delight. \u2014<strong>S. S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s summer, and there\u2019s not a cornfield or a mosquito-infested pond in sight.\u00a0If, like me, you&#8217;ve got the big-city blues, try paging through the lush architectural renderings in\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/press.uchicago.edu\/ucp\/books\/book\/chicago\/M\/bo11166575.html\" target=\"_blank\">Marion Mahony Reconsidered<\/a><\/em> for a respite from the skyscrapers and the carefully allocated greenery. \u2014<strong>Clare Fentress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Were you one of those people who hated summer camp?
